it depends on the version of windows you're running. If you're running Windows 2000/XP then go to:-

C:\documents and settings\YOUR PROFILE

(or you can use the FILES AND SETTINGS TRANSFER WIZARD built into windows XP)

and copy the Favourites, My documents, Desktop folders etc, then put them onto your new PC.

If using 95/98 then copy favorites from C:\windows
copy My Documents from C:\My Documents

Ghost will only work on a PC if it's identical to the PC you imaged from. There is a tool called sysprep that will make ghost image work on ANY PC but that's rather complex.

i'd say the settings and transfer wizard in XP is probably the easiest thing to use

I have Win XP on both computers. I tried the transfer wizard but the files are too large for a floppy disk.

Ok, then you need either a CD writer in the old PC, or a USB pen drive. If neither of those are an option then you got problems!

The only other option is to take the hard disk out of the old PC and put it in the new PC, then drag the files from disk to disk. (sorry I don't know what your capabilities are so sorry if this is either too simple or too complex)

Use a crossover cable .... :D :D :D

Could not resit that one ... :p

Do as spongmonkey said ... slave one drive off the other. ;)

I am a pensioner almost 70. What I can not understand is when I tried the transfer wizard in XP it only allows me to use floppy disks nothing else, I have CD writers in both pc`s. If I fit the hard drive from the old pc to the new will it copy my emails and favourites and everything?

let us know what you use to access email. Then we can help move the emails across. If it's Outlook Express then it's easy :)

Ok Mr Bishop.

Create a new folder on your desktop> find what you need to transfer I.E. emails/photos Etc:> highlight each one and transfer them to the new folder I.E. email highlight and copy to Word [or similar] save that to the new folder> when you have all you need in the folder> right click the folder a box will come up asking what you want to do> select send to> now select your CD/DVD R-W and click ok> make sure you have a blank disc in the drive> you will now see that you have files to be written to disc it will be at the bottom task bar by the clock> click that and it will write them onto the CD> when it has finished remove the CD and place it in the other PC and there! you have it all done> copy it to the new PC> Finished.;)
