I have copied my existing web to a CD and I'm tring to load it on another
computer. All the files and the navigation structure are intact, however when
I try to open a page I get the error, "Server Error, Cannot open file
"service.lck" for writing. Can someone help me? Thanks

You need to remove the read only attributes from every file in the "copied" web.
Files copied from a CD are always marked "read only" by the OS when a CD is burned.

There used to be a file "out there" called Remover that would do this for you, but I can no
longer find a link to it.

However, I have a zipped copy and if you email me with a valid email address I will send you
a copy.

Thank you Steve. How do I do this? Is this something I should have done
when I copied the web to a CD, or can it be fixed after the fact? Would it
be easier to make another copy of the web and make sure it isn't copied as
"read only"? If you could send me the zipped copy of this "remover" file. I
would greatly appreciate it. My e-mail address is "(e-mail address removed)".
Maybe you can answer this too?? I tried to import the web directly off the
Internet, however none of the navigation structure was copied. Is there a
better way to do this??

The best approach is to always publish from one location to another with FP.

It's not all that hard to just highlight all the files in the folder and
select properties then uncheck the Read Only attrib...it'll change them all.

Whenever you copy files from a CD to the hard drive the files will
have read-only attributes applied. This ALWAYS happens.
Importing a web will always leave the navigation structure behind,
along with shared border files (if used), include files, server-side
coding, and anything else that cannot be seen in a browser following
direct links from the home page.
See www.exs-enterprises.org/fp/webfaqs.asp?File=1052388890 for more
information.
