I have six years worth of pst files most over 1gb each that I want to archive
off my computer. I know I can copy files to cd but is there anyway to deal
with the files that are larger than 1gb?

Many backup programs will split the file over multiple pieces of media. I
think there are some good shareware ones

Or you could use DVD-R on which to save your large files.

Or you could leave them on your hard drive. You could then use File ->
Open in Outlook to open each one, have multiples open at the same time,
and you could search through those old e-mails if needed. Then let your
regular backups span them across your backup media, as Vince suggested.
If you don't do regular backups, you've deemed you data as worthless or
reproducible.

I do regular backups on the current pst file and archive by year for the
older emails, all I want to do is to move the files off the computer to free
up more space. I guess that I will search for a shareware backup program that
will apply splitting the files onto multiple CD's.

mjusty,
Have you considered upgrading the hardware on your PC? By replacing CD-ROM
Writer to a DVD-ROM Writer, you can store approximately 8X more Data on a
DVD disc, compared to a CDR disc. A back-up/DVD writing application is
usually included with the piece of new hardware.

I have purchased two (2) of the IDE version of this drive from NewEgg.com,
and they work great. Make sure you purchase the Retail Version, which will
include Nero 7 to be used as your Disc burning application.

You can use Kernel for Split PST tool to split your large pst file into various smaller pst files. This tool can split your large pst file according to date, size or the sender as choosen by you. To know more about the software visit: http://www.splitpstfile.net/
