Hi folks. I just started on XP. I can write to CD ok,
but all the files in the folders I copy come out with
today's date. I would like the files to have the original
dates. Copying a folder to a differnet place on the
harddrive keeps the old dates. Just copying to CD causes
the new dates to be written. Any ideas o how to write to
CD and preserve the original dates on the files? Thanks.

Hi,

If you copy to the same media they will retain the same date because that is the date of creation.
So when you copy that to a CD disk it says that the file was created on this date.

Seeing they're all in folders and not just individual files, try zipping the
folders and then burn the zipfile.
I haven't done it for a while, but from memory, the original file-dates then
remain unchanged.

Well, this makes sense. I would like to be able to
override it to use the original dates when desired, but
now I know what I am dealing with. Thank you.

johnf, This works fine. I zipped the folder and burned
it to the CD. Then I copied the zip file back to the
harddrive and unzipped. The orignal dates are in place.
Thanks for the help. Dan

Try to obtain a small program called DateStamp.
