Copy files instead of move

OK. I know this is an elementary question, and all of a sudden my computer
is doing this and I don't know what I did to make it or how to shut it off.

I have a document in a folder and I want to drag it to another folder.

BEFORE, it would copy it to the new folder and leave a copy in the original
folder.

NOW, it MOVES it to the new folder and delete the coph in the original folder.

I want a copy to stay in the first folder.

What did I do to make this happen and HOW can I tell it to do what I said
above?

Thanks
Pam

You probably did nothing. This is how is works:

1. If you drag from one folder to another on the *same* drive, it moves the
file.

2. If you drag from one folder to another on a *different* drive, it copies
the file.

You may want to do what I do. I don't find these rules at all intuitive, and
have trouble remembering them, so what I do is always *right*-drag files
instead of left-dragging them. When you right-drag and let go of the file,
you are prompted for whether you want to move or copy.
