I am the owner not the creator of my website and have my user name &
password. I need to make changes to my site in MS FrontPage. How do I do
this? Is there a step by step procedure that I can follow? My website
creator is not responding to emails......made errors on site that I need to
correct soon. Also, how do I change my password so only I, and not my
creator, can have access to my site in the future? Thanks

Open FrontPage
File | Open Web/Site you'll enter your online url:
http://www.yourwebsite.com
Publish Site
then enter the location on your local HD that you want to Publish to. You
may be prompted to create a web/site if you haven't done this
before...C:\....whatever \My Webs\yourwebname (no extension but can be any
name you want)

Then make your changes on your *local* copy. When your happy with changes
make sure you Save All. Then you just reverse the procedure, this time
publishing your changes to the http:// address.

Changing passwords procedure varies..sometimes the you (the owner) can do
this if the host has an online web interface that allows you to, or just
contact the host and have them change passwords.

Thank you so much. I have some old site pages already copied onto my hard
drive when my website creator talked me through it over the phone. However,
these files are not used for the newly designed site as they are totally
different. Do I need to just delete these....and will it mess up my already
published site? Thanks again.

no don't delete them just publish to a new webname on your hd...you can call
them anything you want.

I'd get rid of the javascript that disables right click...it's worthless and
prevents people from quickly bookmarking your site.

then check your form for a valid email address.

I followed the procedures below and when I entered my www.website.com info.,
it asked for my username and password. They were already set up in the
computer from the last time I had to work on my site. So I just had to input
the password as the username appeared. However, I am getting the following
error message:
"The folder isn't accessible. The folder may be located in an unavailable
location, protected by a password, or the filename contains a / or \." I
sure hope this doesn't mean my site creator has changed my password without
my knowledge.

I was not prompted to create a website, however, but is this something I
need to do....start all over? Thanks for your help.

Did you enter the http:// part?

That site looks like it was created with DW so becareful.

Yes, I entered the http:// part. The website creator says it was created
with FrontPage when she first created it back in 2004 and she told me to
purchase FrontPage so I would be able to make future changes. Since she
recently, in July 05, made design (not text) changes to create a more
professional appearance, I just assumed it remained in FrontPage. Could that
be why I cannot save it to my hard drive in FrontPage?

No, you should still be able to, the site does have FP extensions installed.

Try this to see if you can open the live site; browse to the site with IE
then click on the toolbar button in IE that says Edit With
FrontPage...you'll be prompted for un/pw...see if this opens the live site
or not. If it does you can try to Publish to your hd that way.

Okay thanks. I tried this and was able to save the home page on my hard
drive. I clicked on "Edit with FrontPage" and it prompted me for my
password. Again, I think there is a problem with that because I had to
eventually hit cancel and then it let me view the home page only in live view
as if I could make changes to the text, etc. So I clicked on the "Save As"
button and save the home page on my hard drive. Do I need to just open wach
page and save them in this manner or should I be allowed to save the entire
site all at once when I click on the Edit with FrontPage button? At any
rate, you help has been very valuable because at first, I didn't even have
the home page on my hard drive....now if I could get them all, that would be
great. Thanks again.

That was just a test to see if you could open your web live. IF it did not
open the web (you should have seen all the files listed on the left
column..the Folder List) then your un/pw is probably not correct and/or it
could be the extensions are wacked.

You don't want to just copy or save as stuff from FP web..because the web is
an entire group of files that are interrelated. You need to open the web
live and Publish it to hd...NOT Import or Copy pages from it...you can but
this is not what you want to do.

Contact your host, have them reset or check your un/pw, have them check or
re-install the FP extensions.

btw...don't use a third party ftp program either as this will wack the
extensions too.

..

Okay thanks. That's what I'll do. It makes sense now. No I did not see all
of the files on the left side. So I was not able to open the live site and
see all the files listed on the folder list. I used to be able to see this
when the site was not newly designed. I have emailed my website creator to
see if she somehow changed the password/UN but probably will not get a
response. So I will do as yu suggest and contact my hosting company so they
can check the un/pw and ftp exts.

On another note, once I am able to get into my site to make changes, I need
to correct an error on my contact us page. The form does not submit at all
to the email address it is supposed to go to. The client completes it, hits
submit, but nothing happens. I am losing business this way because clients
are waiting on me to respond to an email that I never received.

I think I got some good advice in this forum on how to fix this by going to
the "contactus01.html", double click to open, right click anywhere on the
page, go to properties, and make changes. I don't know what changes to make,
however. Am I just checking to see that my email address is listed? Can you
tell me if this is accurate so I can get all of this done once my password/un
matter is cleared up?

Again, you've been a big help and I can't thank you enough. At least I
don't feel as handicapped and have a little more knowledge about how this
FrontPage stuff works.

Yer welcome.

Go to Form Properties and make sure the email address is correct, currently
I think it's a yahoo address if it was changed recently this may be your
problem..maybe.

Hello Again:

My hosting company changed my UN//PWD so I can now have access to my site.
However, when I click on the "Contact Us" form properties, the yahoo email
address is correct. What else do I need to check to ensure the form is
submitted to this email address? Also, now, after the hosting company has
reset my extensions, when clicking on the "Submit" button, there is a message
about extensions...in other words, the submitter will see that there is a
problem with this form. Would you click on the submit button and tell me
what this means and how I can correct it?

not sure about the message.

some hosts don't allow forms email to be sent outside of your domain (yahoo)
try changing the email addr to (e-mail address removed)

| Hello Again:
|
| My hosting company changed my UN//PWD so I can now have access to my site.
| However, when I click on the "Contact Us" form properties, the yahoo email
| address is correct. What else do I need to check to ensure the form is
| submitted to this email address? Also, now, after the hosting company has
| reset my extensions, when clicking on the "Submit" button, there is a
message
| about extensions...in other words, the submitter will see that there is a
| problem with this form. Would you click on the submit button and tell me
| what this means and how I can correct it?
