I need to change my motherboard, since I did have problem
with the current motherboard. After I install new
motherboard Elite K7S5A, it got it boot up properly. I
inserted my Windows XP CD to the DVD-ROM, and format my
first partition, since I backup most of my files to
another 2 partitions (Overall 3 partitions). I have
passed the license agreement and press F8, afterwards it
asked where to install and it will copy the necessary
file to the hard disk. This is where the problem arose.
It can't copy some of the files and I skipped it and
there were many files which it couldn't copy. The CD was
in a good condition since my company has another original
copy of Windows XP. Using another CD make it copy another
files but still fail to copy some files and fail to
install it properly. I try to removed all unnecessary
hardware and just leave my graphics card, hard drive, dvd-
rom , and a single module DIMM SDRAM (Kingston). I try to
boot up using win98 floppy disk and use smartdrive.exe to
copy i386 to the hard drive. Failed again!. I did bring
the hard drive to another machine and copy the I386 CD
from the same CD and it copied fine! After I executed the
winnt.exe, it copied files into the hard drive and
restart automatically after it finished and I did follow
the same procedure which accepted the lincese agreement,
and when it came to copy a necessary data again to the
hard drive, it missed more files than usual!!. I have
just no idea what to do next.

Zul,

On some highspeed burners, and with some burning software (especially
earlier versions of NERO), copies of the CD's can have some issues. I
recommend trying to burn the copy at a lower speed.

When all else fails, always go back to the ORIGINAL XP media.

Also make sure that if your motherboard supports ATA/66/100/133 drives, that
you are using the 80 wire IDE cables, and not the standard 40 wire IDE
cables.

I did do the slipstream with Original windows XP.
Currently I have
1. Original Windows XP
2. Slipstream Windows XP with SP1
3. Slipstream Windows XP with SP1a

All works on another machine. Of course I am using ATA
100 IDE cables, although my Matrox 60GB supported 133MBs.
Some people think it is a memory problem. Any other idea?
Thanks for your help and suggestion.

I have nearly the same problem, i have my pc for 2 years
and nothing wrong with the W98 SE but i wanted to try XP
and all is happened. Can you try to install W98 SE and
look if you can install without the following error

What i have post to XP and W98 setup newsgroup is ;

I had a Win98 SE OS and decided to install XP, done
without no errors than xp sp1a.
After i have installed XP and the sp it started to give
error in archieve files like cab, zip, rar. I have tried the
same files in other PCs but nothing wrong with the files.
I have formatted again and tried to install XP again but
give the error, "unable to read the file" when reading
from cd, i have changed the cd from CDW to DVD, as i can
see the file which setup can't read when
i browse, setup couldn't see it.

And again i decided to install back my lovely os, the
magnificient W98SE. But i was shocked when i saw the
following error in setup, after the 1st task when started
to 2nd task.

Error : SU99322 Copy session not open and failed
to load expansion dll (suexpand.dll)

I have formatted several times and tried to install but
always at the same place it gave the same error.

What i have done;
1-) I have checked my bios settings, loaded back the
default settings
2-) Checked the virus protection from bios, it was
disabled, nothing wrong with the mbr
3-) Downloaded the diognosis progs from Maxtor HDD
website, PowerMax and Max Blast3,
checked the hdd but found no errors. Hdd is 40gb Maxtor
6L040j2
4-) Checked the ram from bios, passed all.

My PC is Siemens 1279 mainboard with via266 chipset, 256
DDR ram, 1 GHz AMD, Leadtek GF2

After 2 weeks i have tried everything but still unable to
install any of these 2 OS.

Please someone tell me all about this shit !!!
