copy data

I have used access 97 sr2 as a phone book with one table
and a form, there's about 20 fields and 650 records. I
want to update it so I've copied the table structure and
modified it to about 30 fields and created a new form. I
thought copying in the old data into the new table would
be easy but copy and paste gets the data into the wrong
fields.
Linking looked hopefull as a solution but I can't make it
happen, copy append no joy. This must be easy, could
someone set me of in the right direction. Any
contributions on this would be much appreciated. PS I'm
desperate to avoid typing and records out again
 
Paul,

Create an append query based on your origional table and
append to the new table. The fields can now be mapped to
where you want the data to go (the "Append to" line in the
query design view). Run the query once or else you will
have all your data multiple times.
