Copy contacts into a subfolder

How does one copy contacts from the main contact folder into subfolders?

Select them all, then Ctrl+drag or Edit | Copy to Folder.

Edit > Select All > Edit > Copy to Folder (most people use Move to Folder,
which makes more sense but isn't what you asked for).
