whenever you copy a file and paste it in another location, it creates a new
creation date however it uses the old modified date, why is that so? because
if you see, the modified date is older than the creation date.
Is that a bug or is it designed that way.
however, when you use cut, it retains the old creation date and the modified
date.

Think about it. When was the COPY created?

That is the Created date that the copy gets. Because the COPY was created
at that time.

When you CUT and paste a file it's the same thing as MOVING a file. The
only thing that changes is the location of the CUT/MOVED file. No dates are
involved at all.

Not possible, because how can a modified date be older than the creation date??
so, i believe its a bug in windows xp and win 2k itself.
how do we get this addressed??
thanks,

Sumanth

It is possible, it isn't a bug. Are you saying the file was modified on a later date? Are you saying the file was not created on that date?
