Copy and Paste to Word 2003

Andrew

I have been using Word 97 for three years now and attended two course in the
use of the Word programme.
Recently I purchased a new computer with Word 2003.
I have noticed that when I copy a paragraph from a document or webpage, open
Word 2003 and paste that paragraph into a new document (in Normal View)
there is a small icon alongside the paragraph. If Word 2003 is opened
before the paragraph is copied and pasted then this icon does not appear.
When this icon is enlarged it looks like a small calculator or handheld
computer.
I have asked my course tutor what it is and he has never seen it before.
Can anyone explain the reason for or use of this icon?
Andrew

Paste Options button? (It's a clipboard, BTW.)

Hi Andrew,

Do you have any Bluetooth drivers installed? If so we've found they
also install an add-in for Word (and Excel) which copies an image to
the Windows clipboard when Word starts.

Search for a CSH.DLL and rename it to CSH.DLLOLD to prevent it from
loading and modifying the clipboard.

Hi Bob,
I believe you may have hit the problem on the nose.
Yes I do have a Bluetooth Mini PC Card plugged into my laptop computer.
I will try your recommended solution to see if this resolves the problem.
However, normally I will have to live with this minor problem because I use
my Bluetooth Device.
Have you quizzed BlueTooth as to why their programme paste the picture to
the system clipboard when Word or Excel starts?

This was reported by a user a few weeks back. He found that uninstalling the
Bluetooth removed the problem. He then reinstalled it and the problem didn't
come back.

Hi Andrew,

I'm not sure if you are replying to me or someone named Bob <grin> but
many third-party manufacturers create an add-in to supply additional
functionality to the Office apps. If you are not using that
functionality in those applications then renaming the DLL shouldn't
remove any other functionality. If it does, please let us know. :-)

As for asking Bluetooth why they have created an 'un-neighborly
add-in', unfortunately they aren't the first to utilize the clipboard
to paste an icon image on a command button/menu item. or clear the
clipboard when the application starts. Even Microsoft is 'guilty' of
clearing the clipboard in their Works add-in for Word.

Typically I contact the manufacturer if I personally encounter this
issue and file a complaint but I guess until everyone starts doing
this they see no reason to modify the behavior. IOW, contact Bluetooth
and let them know you are unhappy with this issue and if they get
enough feedback maybe they'll change it in the future.

Sorry Beth
I really don't know from where I got the name Bob <blush>.
I will do further testing in the light of your latest post.
Be sure I will be complaining to BlueTooth about their software activities
without warning the user (customer); it should not be up to the unwary user
to debug problems caused by their software.
