I need one page from a >300 pages long document, copied into a new document without loosing format and layout
How can I do that without having to create a copy of the entire document and then deleting everything above and below that particular page?

- Open the original document
- Open a new empty document
- Click on the Paragraph Icon in tool bar so that you can see paragraph
markers.
- Select (swipe with mouse or move cursor with shift key down) the Text
you want from the original document. Include the last paragraph marker
(why I asked you to turn them on)
- Copy to clipboard (menu: edit/copy or ctrl-c)
- Go to new empty document and paste (menu: edit/paste or ctrl-v)

If original document had a template attached,you may need to attach the
same template if you want exact same format.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Hi Rob, thanks for the prompt reply.

The solution you provide works in general.

But not for a textbox, that in this case is used as a "header" in the sidebar of the document. This failed to copy, (keeping the source formatting, of course).

What I really would love is the same feature that exist in PowerPoint: In there you can copy a page/s from the preview pane to a new doc, but I guess that's a feature request for a future version of Word.´

Cheers

Hi Daniel,

The problem with what you want to do is that in Word, a page is not an
object that you can grab and move around, like you can with a paragraph. A
page is just a convenience for printing, otherwise, within the document, the
"real" container is the section.

So, in your case, if the page you want to copy is part of a section that has
some particular formatting (Including header/footers, which are section
specific, not page specific), you will have some difficulties.

Regarding the headers and footers:
What if the page you want to copy has its section's header/footer set to
Same as previous? In the new document there will not be a previous
header/footer (only one page, right?), so the header/footer will be empty.
What if the page is the third page of a section that has First page
header/footer different? I the new document, your page will be the first by
default, not the third...

So, you may want to play around with this suggestion:

Go to the end of the page you want to copy;
Display all non-printing characters (Click on the ¶ on the Standard
toolbar);
Find the last ¶ on your target page in you source document;
Place the cursor just to the left of that last ¶;
Insert a continuous section break (menu Insert > Breaks > Section...
Continuous);
This way, the basic info regarding the section will be "in your page";
Select the whole page, including that new section break;
Go to your empty target document;
Paste;
If the source document has no header/footer and consists of only one
section, you are done, go to the last step;
Look at the header/footer;
If in the Source document you had "Same as Previous", you will have to copy
the header/footer manually from the source document;
If you had different first page or odd/even, you may have to copy the
odd/even page header you want, and paste it in the single page
header/footer...
In your source document, do CTRL-Z (Undo) right after pasting the page so as
to remove the unnecessary continuous section break (note that in the target
single page document, you cannot remove the continuous section break at the
end of the page without losing all the section formatting).

It can be a difficult exercise, depending on the nature of your source
document.

Anyway, this has been my experience, I sure hope someone comes along with an
easy trick to do what you want so that I, along with you, can be
enlightened!

I can only guess that it could be possible to make a script that copy all raw text/images on the CurrentPage, raw in the sense that it copies what is in the on-display values of any text object, and not the formula itself? (like Excel)

But I think I got the picture with the SameAsPrevious vs copying objects issue.

Btw, as a first time poster I am impressed with the speed and precision of your answers, despite my feeble attempt to describe my problems!

Thank you.

Hi Daniel,

Your original post was clear enough, this is why I was able to try to give
you some pointers!
Glad I could help.

Do you mean to say that there are fields on the page you are copying from
the single page to the new document, and you want those fields to be"locked"
to their values?
(This time around, I am not so sure that I understand you correctly!)

If I did understand (as explained above), after pasting, do:
CTRL-A to select the whole thing;
CTRL-SHIFT-F9 to unlink the fields;
CTRL-HOME to unselect the whole thing.

This will unlink all fields and display them as "raw" text as you labelled
it... unless I totally missed your point.

you didn't mention headers. can't you copy this from the relevant
header, then put it into the header of the new document.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.
