I am trying to copy a file to disk ( I have never done this B4) Using the
wizard, when I get to insert disk-I insert a all-purpose CD-R and it still
blinks at me to insert a disk, Is that the wrong kind of disk or ?

If you are trying to save or drag and drop directly to CD, this is known as
packet writing and XP does not support that function natively. This
requires third party software such as the Direct CD component of Easy CD
Creator, www.roxio.com or the InCD component of Nero, www.nero.com.

Check the web sites for version compatibility with XP as well as compatible
CD-Writers.

I have Nero already loaded on XP Home. I tried to use it and it says it
requires a CD-R/RW
so does that mean I have the wrong kind of CD?

Is the InCD component of Nero installed, if not, you cannot drag and drop
directly to disk. If it is, then you need to be sure you have the latest
version of Nero and any updates. If your version is up to date, check the
Nero website and if that fails, check with their tech support.

One other thing you can try, open Explorer, select your burner, right click,
select properties, go to the Recording tab, if "Enable CD recording on this
drive" is selected, unselect it, click apply and try again. If it is not
selected, select it, click apply and try again. If that fails, you are back
to Nero tech support as the drag and drop function is not natively supported
by XP's built in CD writing function; your issue is with the application you
are attempting to use to accomplish the task.

You have the right kind of cd, but you may have the wrong kind of drive. Do
you know whether or not your cd drive is R or R/W? The drive has to be able
to write to a cd. A cdrom drive cannot do what you want. It has to be a cd
read/write drive.

Device manager shows HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC4481B under DVD/CD-ROM drives??
