Yes. In fact, I have used that trick to get arround some types of
installation errors., such as not finding some CAB file on the CD, but which
I can see is really on the CD.

It usually is, unless the software manufacturer has, for some
unknown reason, coded the installation routing so that the CD _must_
be used.

Such as most copy protected games...although some only need the cd to run the
game, not install.
