I have a friend that every time he tries to go to any search engine or his
email accounts online IE6 switches to Cool Web search engine. How can he
stop this.

In addition to AdAware and Spybot, I surely would recommend CWShredder
(www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/) that has specially be programmed to take care
of this type of hijack.
