Cool 'N' Quiet

Sorry if this has been asked many times before but i have only just got
this K8N-E Deluxe mobo and am a little new to 64 bit processors.

My question is this, if i turn on both q-fan and c'n'q the fan comes on
and then stops, and the bios reports cpu fan fail and halts the system.

If i turn c'n'q off all is fine, am i not supposed to run both together,
or is this a bug that will hopefully be fixed in future bios upgrades?

The stock AMD cpu fan has it's own built-in fan speed controller,
so you'd probably want to disable Q-Fan.

Sorry if this has been asked many times before but i have only just got
I have the same board, and the same problem.

Smells like a bug to me. But I emailed ASUS about it and they say I
have a defective CPU fan. I dunno. I think it's more like, the CPU
temperature is only 25C, so the BIOS decided to turn off the fan. The
problem doesn't happen when the system is warm, only when it's booted up
cold in the morning.

You can circumvent the bootup warning by telling the BIOS to ignore the
CPU fan sensor. Then, of course, if the CPU fan really does fail, the
BIOS won't tell you about it. So I just disabled Q-FAN.

The stock AMD cpu fan has it's own built-in fan speed controller,
so you'd probably want to disable Q-Fan.

I dunno. I have a retail A64 3000+, using the stock fan with C'n'Q
enabled, and watching in ASUS Probe, the fan speed stays constant at
~3400 RPM. Not particularly quiet, but when the CPU is throttled down
to 1GHz @1.1V, the full blast fan cools it down to the mid 20s.

My fan speed changes but not much, I have CnQ disabled on a A64 3200+
(130nm 2.2 @ 2.4GHz) and the stock fan normally spins around 3100, under
loads it speeds up to around 3500-3600. I'd guess case cooling plays a
big part, I have a full tower with 5 thermal controlled fans in it! ;p

I decided that CnQ was an accident waiting to happen and a solution in
search of a problem, so I didn't bother with it.
