Cookies not writing -- caused by recent Windows update??

For the past two weeks, I have not been able to write cookies on my PC
at work. I have to log in every time I revisit a site, even when I
have told it to remember me. IT folks at work looked at the broswer
(IE6 and Firefox) security settings and said there should be no
problem, but cookies still don't write.

Two days ago, the very same thing began to happen to me on my PC at
home (IE6).

It seems the only common denominator would be recent Windows updates
downloaded and installed at home and at work (both have XP
Professional).

Has anyone noticed this recently? What fixes does anyone recommend?

Is C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Cookies <=this folder empty after
closing all IE windows? ...after rebooting?

Are you running any third-party security applications or "cleaners" that
delete browsing history when you reboot?

Yes, the Cookies folder is empty after closing all IE windows and
after rebooting. No security applications that delete browsing
history are running. I don't have "Empty Temporary Internet files
folder when browser is closed" checked on the Advanced tab in IE6
options.
