Windows XP converting xlr / wps files

hello
can anyone help? i have a new pc with windows 7 and a disk of xlr and wps files that i cannot open. i tried searching for file conversion downloads online but the ones i have tried haven't worked. i am a bit of a technophobe so don't really know what i need to do!

Welcome to the forum

.xlr and .wps are Microsoft Works Extsions. Microsoft Office should open them. If not download Microsoft Works Free

thanks - is there a link to the download? i tried a couple of websites but it wouldn't run...
