The easy way is to buy and use Adobe Acrobat (www.adobe.com/acrobat).
This too not only creates PDF, but gives you some good tools to
manipulate and create "documents". Worth having.

The cheap (free) and just slightly less easy way is to use Ghostscript
http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/. While free, it is high quality creater
of PDF files. Create a Postscript file from Word, then run through
Ghostscript ps2pdf program.

If you search this and related forums you'll find there are some concerns
with the Acrobat clones. Eg, some of them have problems with non-TrueType
fonts -- this is a critical failure if you're using the PDFs for commercial
printing. And the GhostScript approach loses document properties,
hyperlinks, and bookmarks (which Acrobat is able to preserve).
