I created a small home movie using movie maker which saves a movie in .wmv
format. Copied this file to a CD and DVD player is unable to read this format.
So, to what format should this file be converted and how ?? so a DVD player
can recognise and play.

Hello there,

This is a little bit like the man asking directions and being told he is
starting from the wrong place :)

For the best possible results you should NOT create a WMV format
video...instead you should create a DV-AVI video (Takes a lot more space on
your hard drive) The next step is to obtain software for the DVD creation
process...I have seen most of them and some are a lot better than others....I
use Dazzle DVD Complete which is only available via some auction sites or
perhaps places like Best Buy etc.....you would have to search for it. I would
not use anything else. There are quite a few packages around...MyDVD being one
of them

What you do is import your DV-AVI file into this DVD authoring
package...dependent on how good it is you will be given the chance to create
Chapters, a Menu system etc etc.

Perhaps the best thing would be to go to your local store and read the
description and then ask what others in here think about the one you liked the
most...then find somewhere on the net for the best price.

Hello Raj,
Wait! No need to buy anything. Yes, all DVD players can NOT play them because you did Copy! You must let MM2 do a VCD (Video CD) or
SVCD (Super VCD) then or maybe it will play if you tell me what DVD player you got there (brand & model) and I'll tell you your DVD
player compatibility.

In the beginning If you choose to make a Project and saved into DV-AVI then after editing in MM2 choose Save As and name that
Project. You could immediately burn SVCD which is much better than VCD (if your movie fit it) by choosing Save Movie File >
Recordable CD > continue answer all requested instructions.

To be honest with you I always chose another software called Nero-6 to do my burning. You should try the latest version MM2.1 more
feature and enhancement.

Hope this help you,
Rino

the DVD-disks that are made by Major Motion Picture Studios use a MP-3 audio
File..wmv most likely is useing .wma .....I use MPEG-2 and a MP-3 compined
with never a problem of compatibility for other Home DVD-players.

As I said I used Nero-6 for all my burning process. Will version 2.1 of MM do it? Thanks for the clarification.

You can not create (S)VCDs with MM2. You need
to use some other program to do that.

Hello Raj, et al,
Now we got it right. To recap; Download a Free MM2.1 if you have a DVD-RW and you can burn DVD straight from MM2.1 without using
your burning software (DVD-RW & CD-RW) and to make VCD (use your CD-RW burning software) and to burn SVCD (you need to download a
MPEG codec first) choose to saved with DV-AVI files format (your movie with .avi extension) then by using your CD-RW burning
software choose to burn a SVCD. You must be very happy because your SVCD is the same in quality of resolution to DVD except it can
only stored shorter movie.

I asked for your DVD player (Brand & Model) because NOT all can play SVCD except if you bought yours one year ago. No problem
playing VCD, CD & DVD.

To download the MPEG codec, etc, search with Google, etc.

Hope this help you and also others, (don't keep silence - this is your thread - manage it especially to ask questions and thanks
everyone who help you for a nice resolution). --- Rino

No, 2.1 of MM is the same as 2.0 for that feature.... it won't burn a VCD or
SVCD

Minor Correction: MPEG codec is actually MPEG2 codec.

Hi Reno

I am afraid you seem to be interpreting things slightly wrongly. You said:

If you meant to imply that one can burn "DVD Video" -- one that plays in
domestic dvd players -- then note that MM2.0 or MM2.1 in Windows XP Home/Pro
that most users are using, does not make DVD Video. There is a mention about
this feature coming in XP Media Center 2005 PCs; which is a
software+hardware bundled together deal. Applying SP2 to XP Media Center
2004 PCs wont offer this feature. Neither can you download MM2.1 itself (it
is avialable via SP2 update only).

Thanks! Rehan for the clarification,
You and PapaJohn are correct!

That is why I find it much easier & faster with a DVD Recorder: http://www.liteonit.com/DC/english/lvw_5005/lvw_5005.htm $199.99 @
CostCo, etc.
