converting to VCD

I have made a movie of some digital photos with video transitions. The total time is 12 minutes. when I use Nero to convert to a VCD, the time of the movie shrinks to about 5 minutes. Can anyone provide any explanation for this and what I should do
 
What did you save as from MM2? AVI or WMV
What version of Nero?

DId it make the video play faster, or cut a bunch off?

I was thinking of trying out Nero but have not yet. I might if it can do
time travel :-)
