I want to Convert my PATA optical drives to SATA. I know that this
will not make them any faster but I want to do it because of the
longer, thinner cables.

Is this likely to work well? Are there any brands/chipsets of
converters and controllers I should seek out? Are there any
brands/chipsets of converters and controllers I should avoid? Thank
you in advance for all replies.

I don't know about optical drives. I posted my very mediocre
experience with HDDs and these adaptesr here a while back.

None of these adapters is still on the market here. I think
you will just have to experiment.

P.S.: It may be cheaper to get SATA optical drives instead.
At least that way you can be reasonably sure it is going to work.
Might even be chaper if you would otherwise have to try several
different adapters....
