My old computer running Windows XP has died. I bought a new computer with
VISTA as the OS. Company that set up the new computer saved old folders from
Outlook but they have been converted to file ending in .mdx I cannot open
them and the tech who set up my computer was not able to convert. So how can
I open these files which have some needed and useful information. Is there a
program that I can download that will convert these .mdx files to allow me to
open them and is trustworthy?

Thank you for your help.

How in the world did you end up with mdx files. Those files (mdx) were last in use with Outlook Express 4. You need OE 5 then 6 to convert them to dbx before you can get them into WM.

mdx files also need idx files.
If the files are mdx, then the files are not the files that you were using
when the computer died.

You do not need to convert with OE 5 then 6.
Import the files selecting Outlook Express 4 and point to the folder
containing the files.

Thanks for your response and all others who responded. I kept playing with
this after posting my question. I discovered the import function and I am
happy to say that all of my messages and the folders I had set up before
imported appropriately and I now can read them.

Hi Linda,

How do you convert it ? I have similar problem like you and I have tried to
import it by using OE 4, but it gave me the message "No message can be found
in this folder or another application is running that has the required file
open. Please select another folder or tryclosing applications that may have
file open."

Before that, I am using windows 98 and now upgraded to Windows XP, since
then my old OE messages couldn't be transferred. Anyone got any idea on it ?
Please help...

Raymond
