Converting .MPG file

I have renamed the .VOB files to .MPG files in hopes of editing in movie
maker. I also downloaded WM Encoder 9 to convert the files in a format that
WMM recognizes. You will be able to tell I am rookie by this question!!....

How do I now convert the .MPG file to .WMV or whatever I need for use in
Movie Maker?

You do a Gogle search on video converters and download whatever suits your
fancy.
