Simple question, but I cannot seem to figure it out for
myself. How can I convert an incoming fax in a .tiff
format to a Word document and save it as a .doc so I can
access it as if it were an ordinary word document?

I believe you would need OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software to
convert the image to a document.

Thank you, Carey!

Thank you, Robert. I found "Simple OCR" on ZDNET.com for
FREE (just my price) and I'm going to try that.

TIFF (Tag Image File Format) is a graphic, DOC is a document or text format. You'll need an OCR program to change/convert it. If you have a scanner installed it should have an OCR feature in its application to do this.
