I need to import my 2007 .pst file into a Outlook 2000 version (my new
computer with Outlook 2007 is not working correctly and I need to send it
back for repair). I created a 97-2000 .pst file in Outlook 2007 but it is
much smaller (265 KB) than the existing .pst file (410,234 KB) in Outlook
2007.

Is this normal? I am afraid when I try to import the 97-2003 compatible
..pst file into Outlook 2000 that all the messages will not transfer.

Can someone confirm what I should be doing to succeed with this conversion?

First, you should never use importing for transferring Outlook data. Just
open PST files. Never import them.
So far, all you've done is create an empty PST file. You still need to copy
the data from your Outlook 2007 PST file into this file.

That is fantastic, double clicking does not work. How do you open the pst file?

I now have an empty pst file and have no idea how to copy Outlook 2007 data
into it. Good directions.

1. Start Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2003.
2. On the File menu, click Data File Management, and then click Add.
3. Click Outlook 97-2002 Personal Folders File (PST).
4. Click OK.
5. Name the .pst file, or click OK to accept the default name.
6. Click OK.
7. Click Close.
8. Click Folder List at the bottom of the navigation pane.
9. In the navigation pane, you will now see your new .pst file that you
named in step 5.
10. Drag the .pst file information from your existing Outlook 2007 or
Outlook 2003 folders to the new .pst file that you created.

Step 10: wtf is .pst file information? is this the file or information about
the file?

You guys are brillient!!

Outlook data files are opened in Outlook using these complicated directions:
File > Open > Outlook data file.
You would never try to open an Outlook data file in Windows Explorer.

"PST information" is the information contained in your Outlook data (PST)
file. That is the information you copy/paste or drag/drop from one data file
to another in Outlook.

Unfortunately this reply did not enable me to solve my problem. I want to
import my pst file from a 2007 version of Outlook into a 2000 version of
Outlook. When I tried to use the import function in Outlook 2000, I received
a message that the outlook.pst from Outlook 2007 is not compatible with 2000
Outlook verison of the Personal Folders information service. I followed the
HELP directions in Outlook 2007 and I know that the pst file formats are not
the same in the 2 versions but I don't know what to do to make the pst files
compatible.

See of this helps:

it applies to OL 2007 as well.

I am having a similar problem but I can not recreate the 2007 file, its been deleted. I made the pst file from 2007 on my last day of work and deleted the information from that computer. Im now at home trying to import that pst file on my 2002 version. had no idea there would be compatibility issues. nice work Microsoft, brilliant. am i screwed? do i need to find someone with 2007 to import and reexport to a compatible version? can i download the trial version and do that?

Any help always appreciated. Thank you.
