Converting 03 docs to 07

Hello,
I have quite a few templates that I used in office 03 and now that
upgraded to office 07 they don't display right. A simple one pag
background in 03 is not 17 pages in 07 and what you see is thousands o
small squares on every page.

I don't want to lose these templates so how can I get these template
to function in 07?

Could you list exactly the steps used to create these template
backgrounds in 2003?
