I have an old DOS based text program called "first choice"
installed on my Win98se system's DOS. Is there a converter
that supports moving DOC documents from "first choice"
to "word 97"?
 
Have you tried Word's "retrieve text from any file" option (one of the
options in the Files of Type list on Word's File > Open dialog)?

Or as a last resort, install a generic textonly printer on port FILE:. Print
your document to that and you'll end up with a .prn file, which Word will
certainly be able to open as a text file.

FC wasn't too common.
It depends on the version you had of FC.
If you had either ver 1.0, 2.0 or even one of the early 3.0 versions than FC
wasn't compatible with anything.
If you had a later version than there is some compatability.
I kinda doubt if any version of Word will open FC files of any version.
