like to use Quicktime Pro 7.1 and the H.254 codec for
compression BUT QT doesn't offer much in the way of
editing. What I need to do is save my edited movie(in
WMM) as a lossless avi, open it in QT and use the H.254
codec for a reasonable (web) size and very good quality.
Is there currently a better quality compression codec
(for average folks <g>) than H.254?

Monica said:No, no 'reason' for using QT Pro other than it just being the program that
was used in the tutorial for compressing video with (very good) results.
The codec of choice here was H.264 and mpeg4 format. So far I've found it
to do the best job for compression with the least amt of loss of quality.
Course this is just for a "doable" file size for uploading on the web.
I'll keep the originals as lossless avi. Does WMM use the H.264 codec and
save as mpeg4 and do you know of a better codec that compresses to the
degree and quality as the H.264 (that's free) When you say there are
much better products than QT, are you talking about the quality of the
video or features and functionality of the program? QT offers VERY little
in editing tools but I like the results.
Thanks
