convert wmv to avi/dv/mpeg video

Is there a freeware program to convert a wmv video to another video
format (avi/dv/mpeg whatever video) so I can work with it and burn it to
a DVD?

I have the DVD authoring software, so only need to get it into a format
I can work with.

'asftools 2.30'

Small, simple and free.

conversion you want for help and software.

Only mpeg2 files can be burned to the DVD standard.

wmv to avi - MovieMaker 2, Windows Media Encoder, TMPGenc (must rename
extension from *.wmv to *.asf)

wmv to mpeg2 - Because of mpeg2 licensing royalties, no freeware can
legally offer free mpeg2 encoding. However, you might find the old
copy of TMPGenc that offered free Mpeg2 encoding at a time when it was
legal to do so.
