Dear all,

My office is using NT4 as a PDC. Now want to upgrade the Server to
Windows Server 2003. But How can I transfer the user login in NT4 to the AD
in Server 2003??
Thank you very much.

It happens automatically when you upgrade the NT4 server. If you are
NOT upgrading the existing PDC it is a lot more complicated.

You need to do a lot of research, mainly, I suggest on
http://www.microsoft.com

Do NOT upgrade without a lot of research and take many backups.

Cheers,

If You want to to perform upgrade of a domain not migration the approch
looks from the "mountain" point of view as follows:
1. add additional Windows NT server to your domain as BDC, synchronize
it with PDC
2. Take current PDC off-line, promote new BDC to become PDC
3. upgrade PDC to windows 2003, upgrade domain to AD
4. If everything is OK You can rebuild odl PDC from the scratch to
Windows 2003 and join the domain, If You want to ad DC. If it is needed
You can move all FSMO roles to this new DC and remove (upgraded) DC from
the domain

Of course good reading before starting this operation will be advisable.
This URL can be a good start:
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/...3/standard/proddocs/en-us/sag_addeploy_17.asp

Be sure You are familiary with DNS and FSMO concepts in AD domain
becouse this knowledge can be usefull when it comes to troubleshoot some
problems after upgrade

Rick,

Please do not misunderstand my post but if you are asking this question then
you are probably not the person who should be doing this. I would strongly
suggest that you either contact and hire a local consultant who has previous
experience with such an undertaking or that you do an immense amount of
reading and playing in the lab ( which would take a good month - at least -
to accomplish ). This is a very simple procedure but it can go terribly
wrong if the person doing this does not have intimate knowledge of
everything that is involved......
