Convert to NTFS changed program functions

I recently updated a Windows Me machine to XP and of course it inherited the
Windows Me programs and FAT32 disk structure. After a few issues I was able
to get the programs and devices working correctly.

Once the system was stable I then converted the disk to NTFS.

Then several programs stopped working with limited accounts and give a range
of error conditions, one starts up and runs but refuses to shut down as "An
unknown file cannot be updated" another give a much more terse "Error 72
file write error"". Using the "Run as" clears the problems but it is not a
simple answer as one or two programs should run on startup. It is not
possible to trace the location of the files in question as no file name is
available to trace.

Is there any easy way to restore the functions, (NOT go back to FAT32) that
have been lost with the NTFS conversion?

Richard

At least one of the programs is not old and both examples are listed by
their suppliers as current and supporting Windows XP. They were working
before I converted to NTFS and that is the issue, what has NTFS done that
FAT32 did not?

Have you tried reinstalling the programs?

Harry,
Thanks you for your suggestion, but sadly, Yes with no change, it is use an
admin user account and "run as" or nothing. I do have an enquiry out with
two vendors at the moment, but so far no feed back.

Finally I sorted two of the programs that were causing post NTFS difficulty.
I opened up sharing and allowed user changes to the folder contents, this
allows two of the three troublesome programs to run.
Than you to any one who read/responded.
