I recently updated a Windows Me machine to XP and of course it inherited the
Windows Me programs and FAT32 disk structure. After a few issues I was able
to get the programs and devices working correctly.
Once the system was stable I then converted the disk to NTFS.
Then several programs stopped working with limited accounts and give a range
of error conditions, one starts up and runs but refuses to shut down as "An
unknown file cannot be updated" another give a much more terse "Error 72
file write error"". Using the "Run as" clears the problems but it is not a
simple answer as one or two programs should run on startup. It is not
possible to trace the location of the files in question as no file name is
available to trace.
Is there any easy way to restore the functions, (NOT go back to FAT32) that
have been lost with the NTFS conversion?
