I know programs do exist but I just thought it would be nice if there was a
program that added something like "Change to caps" to the right click
context menu. I imagine what you would do is simply highlight the word/s to
alter, right click and select "change to CAPS"
Then of course we need the same thing to change words to lower case.
Anybody ever seen such a program?

Thanks very much On my way to downloading it now

OH it seems to work only with file names. I want a program to recase text in
a file

Thanks but no thanks - I want to alter text IN Notepad or outlook express or
whatever place I am typing text, that is typed accidentally in CAPS when it
should be lower case.
To make it perfectly clear - the word CAPS is in upper case. To change it to
lower case means highlighting CAPS and typing caps. Is there no program that
can run in the tray so that I can simply highlight CAPS- then right click
and select from the context menu "convert to lower case"? OK this was only
one word but suppose a few sentences were in upper but should have been
lower. It means that I have to type those sentences again in lower case to
correct them. How much easier it would be just to highlight, right click and
select "convert to lower case".
I am NOT looking for a program to change the case of a filename.

It's quite standard for editors to have a change case function, but you
mention working with programs that do not have this, such as your mail/news
client. So you want something that works with your clipboard. Probably there
is a group of such choices, but let me recommend this one: Clippy (by Way
Out Software).

What makes Clippy so cool is that you have total control over the menu for
text change operations, and that the number of available functions is very
generous (the preconfig'd ones alone, not to even go into setting up your
own sets of functions).

For your purpose here, just put the case conversion operation into Clippy's
primary menu [*]. Clippy will hang in your tray, and you can click it to
have your needed conversion performed on the text in your clipboard.

* Config LOWERCASE-Convert in Clippy menu

Well, I started to type step-by-step. But it'd be better in screenshots.
If it's not easy how to config, let me know. For now, I'll just mention
a clue that would have helped me when I first ran this program. In the
Options dialog, look for the little icon, first on the left, to launch
the Edit dialog.

OOPS. Mod that! Look for the =second= icon. The one called New. This is the
one which will let you most quickly config a single operation -- such as the
one called "case lower" -- into the Clippy menu.

(The Edit icon, that's best for something more involved. Setting up into the
menu a sequence of text operations under a single quick commmand.)

Caps Down sort of does what you want. Highlight the text you want to
change the case of, copy it, launch Caps Down, hit 'paste'.
