PDF files to DOC
No freeware for this that I know of, but PC Plus magazine has a program for
doing this on their cover this month. If you're willing to consider shareware
and have access to a Mac running OS X, TextLightning.app is quite nice (ob.
discl. I was a beta tester and got a free license
The xpdf site has a pdf to _text_ program, but it loses the formatting. (you
could probably get better results by just selecting all the text in the .pdf
and copying / pasting)
GhostScript will work for this, or ImageMagick.

I find it weird to get started, but it does an excellent job once you get it
going.
AFAIK it is freeware. Snoop around the site if you really need to know
(or just wait for the local compulsive purity cop to check it for you)
