try imagemagick - it's free, it should do what you wish.

You don't need another program to do this...

Open .pdf in Acrobat reader

View full screen (or zoom in to show half a page)

hit Print Screen

Paste into your photo editor of choice

zoom in to show other half of the page

Paste into photo editor

Join two halves and save as a .png or whatever.

This works for all .pdf files - it is very useful for grabbing vector
logos and illustrations from .pdf files (zoom in to get a clean,
full-screen logo etc).

..... you may find the results better by hitting Alt-Prt Scrn.

Prt Scrn on its own will copy the entire screen. Unless the Reader window
fills the screen, you will copy more than you want to.
Alt-Prt Scrn will copy only the active window whether it fills the screen or
not.

Laptops and notebooks without prt scrn keys will differ, for example
FN-insert.

You can use Windows Paint to paste into and save; it's rudimentary but will
do a no-frills job.

Go to Windows Help and look for 'screenshot capture' for more info.

Vista has a built-in snipping tool that will do the same thing, a bit
more elegantly. There are also many free screen capture programs.

True. I rather like the snipper for some things, and use it with
OneNote2007's 'Copy Text From Picture' tool ... provided that the image has
sufficient resolution for accurate conversion, results are perfect.
But for a pure image result in the least time with the least effort, I don't
believe you cannot beat the two keypress sequence of Alt-PrtScrn and Ctrl-V.

y(elegancy)mmv, of course.

Whatever floats your boat. With a screen capture program you don't have
to paste into another application. You can capture a rectangular area of
your choice, you can print directly, you can save the capture to a file.
I consider that a bit more elegant.
