convert mpg to mp3

Hi

I have mistakenly bought some video cds that I thought were music cds and I
would like to be able to play in my car.

Is there anyway to convert the mpg files (or DAT files) to mp3 or wav
format?

If you import the mpg files into a video editing program you can choose to
export just the audio.

I have only tried this with Adobes Premiere Elements but may work for any
video editing software.
As far as I know Windows Movie Maker doesn't support extracting just Audio.
