Are there any issues as far as security is concerned if I
am upgrading from Access 2000 to Access 2002 (and plan to
convert the database format to 2002)? I have read a few
articles and it sounds like the workgroup information
files for the two versions are the same, but it wasn't
totally clear.

When I do the conversion do I just make sure that I join
the workgroup information file created for Access 2000
when I open Access 2002? I shouldn't have to set up all
the permissions, etc. again, correct?

You don't actually have to convert the 2000 mdb at all. Access 2002 will
open it just fine. In fact the default for 2002 is to use/create a 2000
format mdb.

Are there any advantages to converting to Access 2002
format? Or any disadvantages to staying with 2000 format?

I can't think of either. If you do want to convert, you can use the same
mdw. Be sure to join it and then start 2002 (you'll need to go into Tools,
Options, and change the default to 2002 format for new databases.

When you open the 2000 database, it may just open and not convert it.

You may have to use Tools, Database utilities, convert to force the
conversion to 2002.

I am quite certain (although not positive) that the permissions will convert
just fine.

You could always 'backup' the permissions before you convert, just in case.
Sandra Daigle has sample code you can use to do this. See dbutilities 1.0
