I am trying to provide computers for a charity which has members with
limited use of their hands. The cost of large-ball mice and joystick
mice is very high.

There is a commercial product which converts games joysticks into
mouse actions - called "joystick2mouse v2.60" Does anyone know of a
freeware programme which will do a similar conversion as this
programme is too expensive.

I believe I will be able to obtain donated games joysticks if I can
come up with the software.

Have you approached the manufacturer or local dealer for donations?
Here(Canada) we have a project called "Computers for Schools..." who
receive the bulk of replaced computers (from upgrading) from various
levels of Govt and some major businesses. This organisation doles them
out to various non-profit/charitable groups apart from schools. They also
have a largenumber of peripherals. Is there not something like that in
UK?

A local bank of some other business might want to support you. A little
advertisement won't hurt (been there, done that, got bits&pieces left
over :-) ).

Harsha ....Thanks for your response.

I probably didn't place a correct emphasis in my message. I have, by
various means collected computer systems, sufficient to meet the
demand to date.

The efforts are now being channelled into making them more user
friendly. The charity is for Multiple Sclerosis members who frequently
have lost full manipulation of their fingers.

The normal mouse, of which I have dozens, cost only £2 or£3 to buy
new. Special mice eg Genius Rollerball are over £40. There is a
variety of adapted mice which use large rollerballs, small joysticks
etc but they are all very expensive and they do not appear in donated
bundles of PC equipment.

I found out that there is software available to convert games
joysticks into mice but cost comes into it again - £50+ and I am
unsure if there is a limit to the number of times it can be used.

That is why I am seeking a freeware version as I am sure that I will
be able to get hold of free joysticks, even if they are years old, and
then see if they are more user friendly than ordinary mice when
adapted by the correct software.

Once again thanks for your consideration.

Thanks for the link. Have downloaded and will try.

The Joymouse programmes - as opposed to this one "Mousejoy" proved to
be erratic and caused problems to the system. Fortunately I have
tested on a system being prepared for donation and it is easy to wipe
and start again if necessary.

I downloaded the trial for Joystick2Mouse 2.60 and am impressed with
the control it allows and ease of use. This will work alongside the
normal mouse and waits to be activated. The other, free versions take
over and are difficult to disable.

Hopefully this programme will fit the bill.

Thanks

Thanks for that. Have downloaded the zip file. Will give it a try.

Don't do it. You'll be sorry! It requires a password that must be obtained
by snail mail, and until you register, it swaps your mouse buttons, which
can't be undone until the SOB is registered.

(e-mail address removed) says in

Unfortunately, although the programme is better than the
others
suggested it is a 30day trial. There is a payment required
at the end of that period.

Thanks to everyone for their help

NO, it is NOT a trial. It is freeware, it only has the same
name as the other (the URL address is different) - follow the
link and go to the page. Not the same one.

It is certainly free. It is GPU (General public License,
open source code) - only 114kb. It is not a trial. It is
freeware.

Thanks for your help and perseverence.

yah thanks. Joymouse is great. Uses all the buttons. A lot better than
anything I've been able to find up to now.

There is a "download" option that produces a file called:

"Install_JoyMouse20.exe" this is 109kb in size and
requests $19.95 at
the end of 30 days trial.

then there is:

"download source" this produces a file
"joymouse2.0_src.zip" 142kb in size. This I have now
installed and is free.

That is really strange, After see your first post about it is
trialware, I downloaded "Install_JoyMouse20.exe" and did install
it, it did not request anything from me (When I clicked the
download link, it lead me to different mirror for download, then
I needed to choose a download mirror - I just hit the first
one).

When I was installing, the program again displayed that it is
GPL. After I installed it and ran it, I did not see any signs
for a trial at all. Strange strange strange....(but I don't
have any jobstick - I doubt that would make a different, though)

But anyway, I'm glad that you got it up and running.

Cheers.

Yes, it seems great, although I myself don't actually have a
joystick.

Btw, I also tried the reminder program on that page and like
it. It just uses the task scheduler instead of running in the
background. It recent update also has an improved reminder
dialog that is more out of the way :-)

This is more or less one of the features of Accessibility but as you
say, its a tiny file.

Download complete and added to my library. Am sure it will prove
useful. Thanks
