Does anybody have or know of a conversion program to convert all
Company info that's in our contacts (V2) into Account info in V3 and
then relink the contacts to the Accounts? I restored a backup copy of
the DB from v2 into v3 an the conversion process made a total mess of
my Company/Account info.

I am certain there is no 3rd-party software.

Can you describe the "mess"?

Ideally, the conversion process should sort all v2 contact records
according to company name, then create a single account record for each
company name in v3 db and then link all associated employees to the
appropriate newly created account. In my case it has been very eradict
in that sometimes it just loaded the company name into the account
field but never created an account record. Sometimes it dropped the
company name altogether and then other times it changed the company
from "ABC inc" to "Employee ABC inc".

Thanks for your reply

It sounds like the default "File As" for Oultook 2007 no longer matches your
previous "File As" setting, which can result in changed names as you
described. "File As" is the column that shows the display name for a
particular record. It is typically comprised on company name or individual's
name.

How did you initially import these records? Was it an in-place upgrade or
did you import a previous export or a backup of the file?

My bad at the beginning. I said that the db was restored from v2 to v3
when in fact that was not the case. The db was exported from v2 and
then imported in v3 as it was not possible to restore a backed up v2
db. The error message when attemping to restore is;

"Cannot restore this database because you were not authorized to
backup or restore this databases when this one was originally backed
up. For more information, please contact the database owner of the
systems administrator for more information. Your local database was
not changed."

I, of course, took full control and ownership in vista for the backed
up v2 db but still got the same error message.

It still sounds like the "File As" is not setup correctly.

If you set that correctly and import the .msbcm afterwards, it should look
properly.

Write me an e-mail (my contact info is on my website) and I may be able to
help.
