I had to change computers recently. My outlook personal folders were put
into a zipfile, which I opened into the new harddrive. However, when I try
to open the documents, associating the document with word gives me a document
full of nonsense. I tried the notepad and it did not work. I tried outlook,
since the files are followed by .pst, but nothing. What should I do?

Outlook .pst files need to be imported into Outlook.
Open Outlook. Choose File - Import and Export. Choose Import from another
program or file. Choose .pst from the list. Then find the .pst file and
click next.

Let us know if that helped.

No they do NOT. Import is the best way to lose data.

Importing an entire PST may well corrupt your profile and may create a ghost
PST that you can't close. Importing PST's will lose:
1. Custom Forms
2. Custom Views
3. Connections between contacts and activities
4. Received dates on mail
5. Birthdays and anniversaries in calendar
6. Journal connections
7. Distribution Lists

Opening a PST file will preserve all of these. That is why we do not advise
people to import a native file into Outlook.

Firstly do NOT follow the advice to import. You will lose data.
Unzip the file(s) to your HDD. Do NOT overwrite any existing pst file.
Remove any read-only attribute.
Then in Outlook, do File-Open-Outlook Data File and navigate to where you
unzipped the file(s) to. You then have two options - either drag and drop
your old data to the new set of personal Folders, or, set the old pst file
as the default delivery location. (Useful if you have a LOT of data in the
old file(s)).
