conversion from .bmp to .jpg etc

I just used Irfanview to convert a few pictures. Are there other
alternatives (stupid question I know!) but how does Irfanview stack up. It's
the first time I've done any conversions.

IrfanView is an excellent choice for
batch format conversion.

The question is...why do you have so
many .bmp files? Maybe the following

With reference to batch conversions, I think you will get positive feedback on
IrfanView by most everybody, including myself.

And the price is right<g>

Thanks for all your replies. The reason I am using it is several pictures
sent to me in .bmp that flooded my Email capacity. I have received a number
in the past, and have them stored on my HD. I can now convert them.
I am finding that as camera pixels grow (2 million was standard, now it's
somewhat more than that) the size of pictures grow. I need to be able to
overcome that. Also, to alter some of my old family pictures, some B/W, that
I have scanned.
