controlling internet access

Hi,

Sorry if this is not the best forum for my post.

I have a small office with 5 machines and WiFi. This week a cable connection
to Internet was installed, and my trouble began.

The provider brought a Linksys router, which connects to my Linksys wireless
router. I removed the connection until I can protect the network. It's
small, but it runs my business... One machine is cable connected to the WiFi
router, and contains my database.

I'm very concerned about this Internet problem, and ran 2 years without it.
But now I have no choice, and can't risk my few machines being destroyed by
virus, trojans, downloaded exe files and etc. I even thought of using one
machine to connect to Internet and let it out of the network, but can't
afford a new box just to do this job.

Apart from antivirus and firewalls, I would like to restrain internet access
to employee to specific periods (lunchtime, i.e.) and let them access only
some sites (homebanking, services, etc.). Can this be done through Windows?

Second, I've seen in some big companies that there is a software that blocks
exe files, activex controls and scripts from being downloaded/executed. It
would not allow webmail, blocked some popular sites, and was user/password
controled, so that a specific user could do anything. Unfortunately I can't
remember soft name (it was shown when it blocked a download). Do someone
knows any software that can do this?

Thanks for all,

Luiz Horacio

Dont know about software, some else probably does, but you probably need
also a formal notice to employee's about what they can do on/with the PC

Being a business, I'd get a Tech in and make you wi fi protected from
outside eavesdroppers. The Tech could also lock out those computers in your
business you do not want to have access to the internet.
