Controlling a computer through AD

Is there a way to remotely manage a computer through AD? I know I can use
Remote Desktop to do it but I don't want the user to know I am watching.

Our Server is Win 2000 SP3, Clients are running Win XP SP1

May I suggest VNC to start?

We use it here, seems to work for us to log in to systems
remotely. We set the access password so only admins have
rights.
