controlfile.rb "starts with a 'G'. Sounds like 'frugal'?"
Sorry to be dense, but I don't quite follow you. Could you please expand on
that a little?

That's the same info I turned up. I'll just leave it alone. Thanks for
your reply.

Hi,
A Google/google groups search turned up a lot more questions than answers,
but this explanation sounds plausible:
http://groups.google.com/group/micr...4c7b8?lnk=st&q=&rnum=1&hl=en#dfce4c487b74c7b8

Or (same message- shorter
link)http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie
6.browser/msg/dfce4c487b74c7b8?hl=en

But, I would *not* recommend disabling Automatic Updates. I would just
accept the presence of this file.

Hope this helps,

What is "controlfile.rb" file in my temporary internet files?
Thanks,

Guys I'm Sorry but that answer is just not acceptable. While I understand
that it may be part of Windows Automatic update its the MAY part that Bugs
me. I went over the documentation I have for BITs and Auto Update and could
not find any mention of it. I would hazard a guess that it is (as the name
implies) a controlfile for the BITs, and it keeps tabs on the staus of the
Downloads but it is a guess. Without a solid MS approved answer the file is
fodder forthe tinfoil hat types.

In theory, there's no difference between theory and practice, but in
practice, there is.
