Control panel does not work when I have ANY program in the startup section of msconfig.
If I uncheck the "load starup items" seems to work ok then.

Any suggstion how to solve this problem?

Thank you

are you disabling all start up items at once? If so try one at a time till
you find the culprit.

Sorry as I tried New>Question to Post but got no window in which to Post, so
here I am.

For no apparent reason, in Control Panel, there is an icon missing & I have
no clue as to which one & how to restore it. Can you help ?
I am running Win XP Home, w/ SP3 Installed
The missing Icon in Classic View is between Phone/Modems & Powe Options.

Thanks for any'all help you can provide!

Try using a newsreader, such as Outlook Express (which is already
installed on your system), instead of the web-based interface. And when
you post, use a more descriptive subject line.

The control panel icon that probably is missing is "Portable Media
Devices". Do you have Windows Media Player 11 installed? If so, it's
possible that this update may have removed it. See

Or ask in the microsoft.public.windowsmedia newsgroup. See, e.g.,

Note that both of the above links are 2006 threads. Did your problem
happen recently? What did you do just before it happened?
