and clos all sesion i hav open.

Sorry for my bad english....

Hi Lennart,

As I understand, once you open Control Panel, it opens for 2 seconds. Then
all the Windows Explorer windows are closed. Also, the desktop will be
restarted. Is this correct?

It appears that the Explorer.exe (which hosts Control Panel as well as the
Desktop) crashes so these windows are closed. At this time, I suggest you
try the following steps to troubleshoot this issue:

1. Does this issue always reproduce when you start Control Panel?

2. Try to boot Windows Safe Mode and then check if this issue occurs under
this mode.

a. Restart Windows 2000.

b. After Power On Self Test (POST), press F8 repeatedly.

c. In the "Windows Advanced Options Menu", select "Safe Mode".

d. Press Enter to start Windows 2000 under Safe Mode.
NOTE: Windows use 640*480 as screen resolution under Safe Mode.

Please try the above steps and then let me know the results. I look forward
to hearing from you.

It become the same problem in windows Safe mode

Hi Lennart,

This kind of issue may indicate that you have some problematic control
panel add-in installed or some system file is corrupted. Please help me to
check the following information.

1. Please collect the Event Logs to me. You can run Event Viewer and then
save the data to .evt files. My Email address is (e-mail address removed).

2. Please check when this issue began to occur. Have you installed any new
hardware, driver or software at that time? If possible, you can try to
remove that for test.

Please check the above information and then reply with this information. I
look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Lennart,

I checked the event log. No apparent problem was found. According to your
description, this kind of issue may be caused by the following:

1. This application which has a Control Panel add-in. I suggest you contact
Retrospect to check if there is any way to completely remove it from your
computer.

2. The replacement of your motherboard. Unless the new motherboard is the
uniform model as the previous one, you need to reinstall this computer to
make it work. At least, you need to perform an In-place upgrade to make
Windows re-check this new motherboard. This is because a motherboard is a
basic hardware so it is closely related to your Windows system drivers. To
perform In-place upgrade, refer to the following article:

292175 How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade of Windows 2000

Please feel free to let me know if you encounter difficulties or have any
questions. It is my pleasure to be of assistance. I am looking forward to
your reply.
