OK, I do that, and it shows "Windows Vista," but the control panel only has
"Classic View" available - no "Control Panel Home."

Hi,

I'm unable to replicate the issue, but some additional questions:

- Have you tried resetting defaults under tools/folder options?
- What happens when you click on the 'Category' column header?

Tried both, but still the same result.

Let me give you my system's specs -

AMD Athlon 2800 (1.8 GHz)
1G DDR 400 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 LE (works with Aero)
80 GB HDD

Could it be the "ForceClassicControlPanel" Policy, Rick?
Perhaps Robert may fwd a copy of the image to my mail.

Hadn't thought of that, Ramesh. The image clearly shows only the classic
view option, there is no indication whatsoever of an option to revert to the
category view.

Yep, just confirmed that setting that policy does give the desired change.

Robert, if you have access to the policy editor gpedit.msc, you will find
the setting under:

User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel

Otherwise, click start and run regedit from box, expand the plus (+) signs
to reach this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

On the right, look for a string called ForceClassicControlPanel and delete
it. Close the registry editor, and retry the Control Panel. You may need to
refresh or reboot the system.

Well, I wish I would've read that last post before I proceeded - I deleted my user account and created a new one....Now, the control panel works right, but all my links are screwed up - I mean, I click a folder in the Start menu, and the icons are all generic, and it takes forever to open the folders. Any suggestions?
