Hi

I am having a little problems with win2000 professional today,
It's creating a few funny things that i am not used to. One strange thing,
is the control panel when opened, all the icons appear on the left in a thin
menu two columns.
Then msn messenger seems to freeze too.
Network connections returns a blank. when i have normally 6 items there.
And when I open outlook, Tools: Send and receive, i see strange things. I
dont see my accounts.

Shall I restore windows? If yes does it overwrite all my files? and
documents?
And if i should retore it, how do i? From safe mode i open up I386 and then
what do i click on?

Many thanks

From the View menu, there are different ways to view the Control Panel, as
any other directory. You probably have small icons or details selected,
where as you may be used to large icons.

What do you mean you don't see your accounts.

Shall I restore windows?

Before you do that, you may want to hit an Outlook group.

If you do a repair from the console, no, I don't think so, but regardless of
what people say or what you read, back up your files no matter what. If
you're in the mood to reinstall W2K, back all your files, and then start
over fresh. But partition your drive into two or three partitions and get
in the habit of keeping all your files on a partition that does not have the
OS on it. That way, if all else fails, you can always reformat your system
drive and reinstall your OS on a whim and not lose your files.

And if i should retore it, how do i? From safe mode i open up I386 and then

Safe mode is selected by pressing F8 briefly after you see your last BIOS
screen and you get the black screen with the |||||||||| going across saying
it's starting Windows 2000.

Hey Ray, thanks for your reply

It seems there is a massive security breach going on with Microsoft products
And i am the victim.
I see someone else on this fourm has had a svchost error. I've had that too,
I turned off my autoupdates a while ago, coz this pc wasnt hooked up, and it
ws irirating me, every 3 days to update.

Now i cant turn it back on

It seems i have a massive problem
I'm travelling now, and i havent backed up for a couple of months
I am so nervous i have no idea what to do. Icant access microsft sites or
anything, the updates wont download

Please if you know anything respond
It's taken me an hour to be able to restart windows and respond to your
reply

Raphael

yes, microsoft acknowledge the problem on their site, and urge you to check
for updates,
Problem is, if you r infected with this breach you cannot download the
update.

however I did got the microsoft site where you manually download updates

http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/critical/default.asp

and just selected the top one, this downloaded like a regular download file,
rather than from within the microsoft console

So far things are working. and i'm now downloading the rest of the updates

I havent breated a sigh of relief yet,

and it's 12:25 am
