Control-O window search list

When I type Control-O to get an "open" window, you can also search right from
that window. Is there a way to clear that drop down search list.

I've tried:
turning off and restarting IE for all the autocomplete options
Clearing the history and cookies.

The things in that list from Control-O never go away. I'm not even sure what
that list is called to search for help on it. Can anyone help?

Hi Dave,

It is the history list. Try this:

1. IE, Tools, Internet Options, Clear History

2. If some of those are left over: search the TypedURLS entry in the
registry.
Start, Run, REGEDIT. Ctrl+F to find TypedURLs. In the right window you
can delete what you wnat to disappear. Be very carefuil when modifying the
registry.

Kind regards

Hans

Hi Dave,
Right Click on your Start Button and select Properties and Click on
Customise and Clear The History List from there and on the Advance Tab too.
Hope this helps

Thanks Hans,

I had tried the delete History and it's not getting rid of these.

I found the TypedURLS registry entry in REGEDIT but it doesn't actually
contain any of the text of the list that I am seeing. If I delete the entire
TypedURLs entry will that clear it out without damagine Internet Explorer?

Ok. I figured out what this is. These are all the internet shortcuts in my
favorites list that show up in the CTL-O search box.

Have you guys ever noticed that before? When I started organizing them into
sub folders, the individual items started going away and my folder names
started appearing.

I just was getting too many favorites and this CTL-O "search list" was
getting cluttered and I wanted to clear it out. I can clear it out by
clearing my favorites, which of course I don't want to do. I've never noticed
this feature on any other search list, just the CTL-O box.

Is there a way to have IE skip searching your favorites like that?>

Thanks for all the help so far

There must be a way to do that, because the entries I see when I click the
down arrow in the Ctrl-O search box are precsiely those in my TypedURLs
list -- the same list I see when I click the down-arrow on the address
bar. I don't know what setting makes the difference, though. Possibly
it's AutoComplete. I have it turned off for web addresses.

Not entirely. There are still things included in it which you will not
want to delete (such as Favorites and Desktop items)

Try leaving the AutoComplete options off
when you Clear History. I think it may prevent
subsequent initialization of the History.IE5 index.dat
by things such as Favorites, the URLs associated
with AutoComplete for Forms and Passwords, etc.

It's the same dropdown list (due to AutoComplete for web addresses)
that you would get if you started typing in the Address bar.
FYI I call it the AutoSuggest list because that is the name of the
registry value which the feature sets.

If you don't want to see the dropdown list at all
uncheck the feature.

BTW I just checked in IE7b2 it looks as if
no AutoComplete is active in that dialog.
So if nobody reports that as a bug
you might get your wish... <w>

FWIW I actually use the AutoComplete feature a lot
and would miss it if it was removed.

All I see there are typed URLs. Is that because I have AutoComplete
turned off? Or could it be because I'm running IE SP1 on W2k?

Yes. You are referring to the TypedURLs dropdown list only.
That's the list you see in the Address bar and in the Open dialog
by pressing F4 or by clicking on the dropdown arrow on the right.

We are referring to the AutoSuggest list which only appears when
AutoComplete for web addresses is enabled and only when you start
typing something in those boxes (or use a vertical cursor key).
In IE6 it is constructed mainly of History items but it also includes
Favorites, the TypedURLs list itself, Desktop items, and diskdrive letters.
