My daughter has Instant messaging set up on the PC. How do i keep it
from coming up under my profile? It pops up on the screen whether she
or I am logged into XP.

Hi Ron,

Move the shortcut to it from the All Users startup folder to her profile.

From:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

To:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Rick,

Thanks for the reply. I have one problem. On the login screen there are two
icons
Marsha and Ron. In the Documents and Settings folder there are 3 subfolders,
All Users, Ron and Owner. No Marsha folder. Is hers the same as Owner, if so,
how do i make sure?

Thanks again

Ron

Hi Ron,

She's setup as owner. (You created her profile first, right?).

Rick,

went into user folders. There aren't any shortcuts (IM or otherwise) in the
Startup folders for any of the defined users, AllUsers, Ron, or Owner. So i
couldn't move it.

Another silly question from a XP novice. A lot of Marsha's programs only come up
while logged in as me. I assume because they were downloaded or installed while
my login was active. Can items in the Documents and Settings folder just be
moved between users folder, Ron and Owner as appropriate or do they they have to
be uninstalled and reinstalled to get them where we would like them?

thanks again

Ron

Hi Ron,

You can copy the program shortcuts across the user folders as desired. You
may find that they still need to be installed under other users those.

As to the other problem, start/run msconfig and uncheck the item that loads
it on the startup tab. Then place a shortcut to it in only her startup
folder.
